Yowell Bars Faculty From Budget Committee

KY has once again shown his contempt for Edison's faculty by refusing to seat Larry Dragosavac or Brad Reed on Edison's budget committee, despite contract provisions guaranteeing faculty representation...

Does this mean that someone will be in line for another bonus? Certainly the Board will recognize the deep wisdom in this move. These faculty don't really understand Edison's budgeting process anyway. Having them there would be totally inconsequential.

I could understand if Yowell simply said that the two faculty needed to excuse themselves when budget items directly related to faculty negotiations. This was done effectively in the past and would have probably been done in the future. Unfortunately, Yowell likes to exert his remaining power whenever he can.

Dr. Yowell did not remove Brad or I from the committee. First of all, Nathan Adkins agreed to take Brad's place. When I attempted to find out about the meeting dates, I was informed that we were not to be invited. I have since removed myself and Steve Sykes has replaced me due to other meeting conflicts. I have also informed the President that the two new members will be attending. I hope this clarifies this issue, but if not feel free to contact me about it. Larry J. Dragosavac, President ESEA.

The lack of transparency in the budget process is reason to suspect the process and those controlling it. There is no reason the faculty reps should be denied access to any part of the process. Every line item is worthy of discussion and scrutiny. "Trust" the "financial genius" to get it right? Not a chance! The process will never be legitimate without participants like the faculty reps who are not beholding to the President for their jobs. Believe it.

Especially when we have a president who makes reference to line items that don't exist. Routinely. And as justification for breaking contracts. And the law. And...whatever.

In the nlong run, the oppressor is also the victim. None are spared when we feed the monster.
