It Never Flows Uphill, Does It?

News flash: 'executives' exempt themselves from hard times. Wonder if KY issued himself a maybe just-in-case sort-of heads-up non-renewal letter?

CQI Consent and Quit Inquiring

The inexperience of administrators ruling over areas they know nothing about is forgivable if they truly administrate rather than “rule.” Service is a core value at Edison, but to many administrators at Edison it is service to their own power. When “TRUTH” is pored through a funnel of a hand full of self-serving administrators, justice is stomped on. Worse yet service to our students, academic integrity, creativity and civility to fellow human beings are also trampled.

How can a former instructor who only taught anatomy and physiology (without, by all academic standards, qualifications) be making decisions about people in jobs that person has never done. Worse yet, these decisions are made without consulting the person doing the given job. I am sure we all have been in jobs in which your supervisor did not know the details of your job, but trusted you to do it and do it well. This has not been the case at Edison the past three years.

This insane administrative practice has cost Edison numerous creative and energetic faculty and good administrators. Many of these lost precious resources have left with the administration attempting to portray them as non-team members.

There is no open debate on academic maters or any subject for that matter at Edison. If you attempt to have an open and civil debate you are branded as one who is violating Edison’s so called core values. What an irony that such lofty ideals are used to impose such a repressive style of administration.

At Edison, the members of the Board of Trustees are the arbiters of how well the college is functioning. There single source of information is through the President. When they did allow a faculty leader to address the Board, they allow the President to strap the faculty member in a straight jacket. Even before the faculty leader could speak, the President dictated the context of the decision. The faculty was in a poker game in which the President was openly dealing from the bottom of the deck. Hopefully this was not lost on all the Board members and they will take action to remedy the present situation with a positive result for the Edison community.

It looks like your ECC Morale dashboard meter is broken. No way morale could even begin to register on any meter. Please fix.

Servant leadership as demonstrated at Edison sets back the concept of servant leadership by about five decades. But that's just an estimate, it actually may be worse.

Now morale, that's easy, it absolutely cannot be worse than it is.

Trustees do your job. Fire him. Disband his gang. Give us a future.

At the mention of executives exempting themselves from hard times it comes to mind a story about a certain college president who was offended by a faculty member's suggestion he take a pay cut, to which he replied he certainly was not going to subsidize the education for any students at his college. True story.

Once again, for any Board member who may tune in, a summary. To wit: you, the Board, through a 5-4 split decision, extended the contract of a much despised top gun who surrounds himself with paranoid sycophants, and at least one serious wacko. The situation at ECC is disgusting enough to turn normally placid and agreeable staff, administrators and faculty members into revolutionaries, and, worse, departees from the Edison family.

At the local level, you are the only ones that can end this madness and reverse your 2008 gift to KY. Do so, please, before you lose that option.

If the trustees fail to act to end this horrid regime, the exodus we have seen will pale in comparison to the exodus that will be forthcoming. We haven't seen anything yet. We can't afford to lose any more good ones, already too many have gone. People can only tolerate so much crappola, especially the good people who know what they are doing, who are servant leaders for real, who actually have regard for core values and their peers, and who actually know how things should be run. The clock is ticking. The board better get its collective butt in gear, or the legacy will be a long and lousy one for years to come. KY and his team must go.

The comment about subsidizing students going to Edison is disturbing. So Yowell expects the employees should take no raises and in effect subsidize students' attending Edison, but he won't sacrifice a dollar, and obviously from the big pay his cronies aren't expected to do so either. That is sick. Even more sick is that many of the new classified workers earn wages so low they can qualify for assistance. What kind of enlightened leadership rewards his loyal few while the front line workers struggle to get by from paycheck to paycheck? Ans: Yowell's arrogant dictatorship.

Here we are again, Board Members, how can you allow these things to occur without asking questions or demanding accountability or seeking honest explanations for why these conditions exist. How can you rubber stamp whatever Yowell tosses down in front of you and not question his actions?

Do we blame Yowell or the Board? Does it matter? Yowell's leadership has always been suspect, and he's carefully filled his pockets along the way. That the Board has consistently approved and supported his administration over the years proves they have been disinterested at best, misled at worst, and failed to meet their responsibility to the college at large by meekly following in Yowell's footsteps.

So I guess we can blame Yowell for being what he is, and the Board for seconding the motion and putting a rubber stamp to it. All in favor, say AYE!

My dear board members, show us you can think for yourselves. Take this cry for change and make it happen. You cannot ignore the problem any longer. Acknowledge it and then fix it.

Edison's pusillanimous Board has been spotted in action. Watch as it responds to KY's commands:

With respect to little or no raises, they don't even amount to enough to qualify as cost of living adjustments; and, given the generally substandard wages paid to all but those aligned with his royal highness, most of us are making less in terms of purchasing power each year we stay. A COL is not a raise. Best of all, not even a proper thank you or cracker covered in caviar for the sacrifices made in the name of educating our students. And to think of all the college spends on things non-essential to the function of educating students. What a joke.
