Dayton Daily News: Ex-Edison Professor Sues After Firing

A former assistant professor at Edison Community College is suing the Piqua-based institution, claiming his employment was wrongly terminated.

James Hannahs of Piqua filed the lawsuit in Miami County Common Pleas Court against the college, in care of the Ohio Attorney General's office.

Hannahs states in the suit he was an adjunct professor teaching engineering technology part-time from 1982 to 2000, then a full-time assistant professor from 2000 until 2004.

In March 2004, he claims, he was notified verbally by the dean of mathematics and engineering that his contract was not being renewed because he "was not getting the job done."

Hannahs accuses Edison of breach of contract, allegedly failing to provide him with proper notice as outlined in an agreement with the Edison State Education Association. He seeks a ruling that his rights were violated and the employment contract breached along with unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
